It is the third movie in the series. In the movie, Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga and Millie Bobby Brown are two of the main characters. Bradley Whitford and Sally Hawkins are two of the other main characters. Charles Dance, Thomas Middleditch and Aisha Hinds are two of the other main characters. It's up to Godzilla and Mothra to stop King Ghidorah, who has awakened Rodan and other Titans to destroy the world in this movie.

During Godzilla's opening weekend, the sequel was given the go light, and director Gareth Edwards is anticipated to return for a trilogy. Edwards quit the project in May of this year. Dougherty and Shields were brought on board to rework the screenplay in October of that year. Dougherty was named director in January of 2017. It started filming in Atlanta, Georgia in June of this year and finished in September. Exec producer and Godzilla suit performer Yoshimitsu Banno (director of Godzilla vs. Hedorah) died in 2017, and the film is dedicated to their memory.

It was released on May 31st, 2019 to mixed reviews, with acclaim for its visual effects and action scenes, cinematography and musical soundtrack, but criticism for its storyline pace, tone and characters. Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The picture was a financial failure at the box office, generating just $386 million worldwide on a production and marketing expenditure of $170–200 million. On March 24, 2021, Godzilla vs. Kong was released.

Fifth-year paleobiologist Dr. Emma Russell and her daughter Madison watch the birth of a Mothra larva five years after the world learned of the existence of the "Titans" Emma uses the "Orca," a gadget that emits frequencies to attract or repel Titans. Emma and Madison are kidnapped by eco-terrorists commanded by ex-british army Colonel Alan Jonah. Mothra retreats and pupates nearby.

Emma wakes up Rodan in Mexico, and the Monarch team tries to get it to go to Monster Zero. Godzilla attacks Monster Zero after Rodan is defeated, and he cuts off his left head. During the fight, the U.S. Navy fires a weapon called the "Oxygen Destroyer," which appears to kill Godzilla. Monster Zero grows back his lost head and wakes up all the Titans that have been dormant around the world, with Rodan giving in to his rule. In the end, Madison doesn't want to be with Emma.

Through mythical literature, Dr. Ilene Chen determines that Monster Zero is King Ghidorah, a primordial invader aiming to change the Earth. To get in touch with Godzilla, Mothra exits from her cocoon and heads to Monarch's Bermuda headquarters. Godzilla's lair is located in a radioactive submarine. They reason that Godzilla's recovery time will be slowed down if they don't use a nuclear weapon to expedite the procedure. When Serizawa detonates the bomb manually, Godzilla is revived and his strength is increased.

Emma believes Ghidorah and the other Titans' devastation will be much worse than anything humanity could achieve, but Jonah ignores her. Orca gets stolen by Madison. When Madison arrives at Fenway Park, she accidentally transmits a frequency that soothes the Titans. Ghidorah attacks Boston's Orca. Godzilla comes to attack him with Monarch personnel's help. Mark leads a team to rescue Madison and flee the city as Godzilla's radiation levels rise, threatening a nuclear explosion. To assist Godzilla, Mothra is stopped by Rodan; she beats him but is damaged.

Despite Ghidorah's overwhelming might, Mothra sacrifices herself and gives her power to Godzilla, preventing him from being killed. It is revealed that the Orca is reactivated and used to lure Ghidorah from Godzilla. Emma sacrifices herself so that Mark, Madison, and the rest of the Monarch crew may get away from Ghidorah. Reborn Godzilla beats Ghidorah in an all-out battle. The Titans, led by Rodan, assemble before Godzilla and submit to his will and authority.

The Titans are working to repair the earth, a possible second Mothra egg has been found, and some of the Titans are converging on Skull Island. Ancient cave drawings depict Godzilla and Kong-like Titans fighting. In a post-credits scene, Jonah and his soldiers acquire Ghidorah's severed left head in Mexico.

According to director Gareth Edwards, he intended Godzilla (2014) to be a stand-alone picture with a clear finale, and he resisted suggestions that the ending allow room for a sequel. He stated he might return for a sequel if the present picture went well, but his primary aim was producing a fulfilling experience "I want a tale that starts and finishes properly. We only cared about this film while we were producing it. The others may come if this one is excellent, but let's not be distracted by other things." Legendary wants to make a trilogy of Godzilla films after the first film grossed $103 million worldwide. Legendary revealed in July 2014 that they have purchased Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah from Toho. A brief teaser trailer containing all three concept images and the phrase "Let them fight" was aired. Other specifics of their presence in the sequels were not released. Legendary announced in August 2014 that Godzilla writer Max Borenstein will return to write the script for the sequel.

Even before Edwards' decision to return for the sequel, Aaron Taylor-Johnson said that his involvement was dependent on whether or not he would repeat his part. A Godzilla vs. Kong film, slated for release in 2020, was first reported by Legendary Pictures in October 2015. King Kong, Godzilla, and other huge super-species will be part of a common cinematic universe that Legendary is developing "centered around Monarch."

All that Legendary was had to accomplish was to include Monarch, Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah. They "started over from scratch" using Dougherty's screenplay. He started with a two-page treatment, which included a basic outline of the plot as well as rudimentary drawings of the main characters. Dougherty and co-writer/executive producer Zach Shields formed a writer's room, which included Borenstein. A total of ten authors were involved in the development of the therapy. It took more than a year to finalize the script.

Kyle's loss of faith in the beginning, and finding it in this moment when he realizes, you know, God is dead. Shields said, referring to Godzilla and Mark's characters. Full sequences of the non-Toho Titans rising after Ghidorah's call were written in Dougherty and Shields' treatment and early drafts but later trimmed due to budgetary concerns in the final version To begin with, Borenstein planned to include Mechagodzilla in the picture. At some point in his writing process, Dougherty decided to drop the character.

It would be great if Dougherty could get "God in Godzilla" back for Godzilla. They came up with a design that he liked, but he wanted to make it better by adding the 1954 version's dorsal plates and making its claws and feet bigger so it looked like a more powerful predator. In order to make Godzilla's roar sound more like that of the 1954 version, the director asked the sound design team to make it sound more like the roars from that movie "It looks like they did a good job with the roar of Godzilla in the first movie. In order to make it even more like the original (1954) version, I pushed them a little bit further, but not too far."

For Rodan, volcanic rock was added to the scales and skin tone to give Rodan the appearance of being able to survive in a volcano. It was Dougherty's goal to build something that "Mother Nature could have created." for Rodan's design. The designers were told to look at birds like vultures, eagles, and hawks, not simply Pteranodons, since birds are closely linked to dinosaurs. It's not easy to tell where Rodan's allegiances lay, according to Dougherty. The film's director further defined Rodan as a "massive A-bomb" that delivers "speed and ferocity." to the battlefield. Rodan was designed by Tom Woodruff Jr. and Amalgamated Dynamics. Rodan's pursuit scene was the first pre-visualization sequence that was utilized as a proposal to Legendary Entertainment.

As a result of his investigation, Dougherty identified several "scary, predatory moth species." "...the approach for Mothra is to create an insectoid, huge creature that looks believable from every angle, and especially in motion." he said. The filmmaker struggled to create Mothra since he didn't want her to seem like a blown-up moth. Mothra was designed by Legacy Effects.

They should make sure Ghidorah has an eastern dragon influence, but not a western dragon influence "They don't look like dragons from the west. That's why they had to follow those rules from the start. There are dragons in Game of Thrones, but we don't want ours to look like that." Legacy Effects also came up with the design for Ghidorah. Dougherty said that the movie isn't funny, but he said that Ghidorah was like Rip Van Winkle because he was both curious and cruel. In the movie, the producer said that Ghidorah wasn't part of "not part of the natural order."

Amazon, the Godzilla Store, and Tsutaya were the only places in Japan where you could buy the movie on December 18, 2019, when Toho released it in multiple formats on 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD. In addition, Toho also released a four-disc limited edition set that included the 4K Blu-ray, standard Blu-ray DVD, bonus features Blu-ray, and a SH MonsterArts Godzilla figure. As a Godzilla Store exclusive of the four disc set, the movie's Burning Godzilla was featured on a limited-edition Movie Monster Series figure. In addition to the regular files, there were a few retail exclusives. The film premiered on HBO in January 2020.

Godzilla comes in to fight not long after that, and fight he does. Monsters Godzilla and Ghidorah fight. Godzilla tries to fire his atomic breath at Ghidorah, but he dodges and fires lightning from all three heads, sending Godzilla back into the ice. Ghidorah then goes on a killing spree, killing a lot of people, including Graham.

As a result, Monarch is able to get in touch with Emma, who is eager to assist Jonah in his mission to release the Titans. Since the Titans saw themselves as legitimate rulers of the earth, they may help restore the planet's ecological equilibrium that has been mostly destroyed by mankind. Mark believes she is doing this to get revenge on him for the loss of Andrew.

Jonah and Emma proceed with their crew into Mexico to release another Titan. The city begins to being evacuated. They make their way to an active volcano to release Rodan, “the Fire Demon”. He emerges as Monarch’s squadron of jet pilots move in to attempt to take him down. They show to be no match for the flying beast, as he devours several of the pilots while completing the rest of them by barrel-rolling through the air.

Ghidorah enters the fray shortly thereafter and engages Rodan in combat. Using his numerous heads, Ghidorah obtains the upper hand (or claw) in the fight against Rodan. Godzilla returns for a second series of attacks before he can proceed. Godzilla manages to rip Rodan's left head off in the rematch. A bomb nicknamed the "Oxygen Destroyer" is set to be launched by the military, which Captain William Stenz (David Straithairn) informs Monarch about. When the bomb goes off, Ghidorah manages to flee while Godzilla seems to be killed.

Ghidorah flies to the crater's summit, where he may grow a new skull. The other Titans are awakened by his rousing appeal. Titans respond by wreaking havoc and utter ruin on their territories, with the loss of tens of thousands of lives. For the simple reason that Ghidorah has established himself as the alpha titan, all of the Titans now bow to his authority, including Rodan.

As Mothra emerges from a cocoon under a waterfall, she flies her way toward Godzilla, who is alive but weakened and healing underwater. As Mothra and Godzilla are talking, Monarch locates the two. Mothra and Godzilla "have a thing," as Barnes puts it, and the crew agrees. Ghidorah was one of the most feared Titans and would fight Godzilla for dominion, according to historical writings.

Mark, Serizawa, Ilene, and Coleman proceed to Godzilla's location to try to awaken him, however it's revealed that Godzilla's recuperation procedure might take years. Seeing how Titans like Godzilla thrive on radiation, the scientists devise a nuclear cure. Because the sub's weapons systems are damaged, Serizawa decides to take the nuke down and set it off personally. He bids his comrades goodbye and makes his way up to Godzilla, his closest encounter. He kisses a barely cognizant Godzilla before committing himself and detonating the bomb. Big G reappears, stronger than ever, and launches his atomic breath into the sky.

And Ghidorah is back, chomping on Godzilla's sides. Mothra swoops down to help Godzilla by webbing the three heads. Rodan resurfaces and attacks Mothra, nearly taking her head off until she outwits him and stings him in the shoulder. Because Godzilla is now weaker, Mothra stands by his side. But Ghidorah's lightning vaporizes her, and her essence covers Godzilla to energise him.

He rises in a fit of rage and continues to wreak havoc on his arch-enemies. Humans are racing to leave Boston, but Emma knows she must make amends for her actions. In spite of Mark and Madison's pleadings, she refuses to get on the plane to leave the city. Using the Orca, she lures Ghidorah into her van. While Godzilla's nuclear pulse is still building, he fires a blast at her, knocking her out of the van. Emma's final words are, "Long live the king." Skyscrapers collapse around him as everything else catches fire and goes up in smoke. Ghidorah is finally destroyed by Big G's powerful blast, which burns off his wings and kills his two side heads. After one more blast, the city burns to the ground, and Ghidorah's head emerges from the ashes... Godzilla, on the other hand, sucks the life out of the creature with one swoop.

The rest of the Titans will arrive in what's left of Boston soon enough. Even Rodan bows before Godzilla. Astonishment engulfs Mark, Madison, and the rest of Monarch as they watch. After then, Godzilla lets forth a jubilant cry of victory.

After the credits, Jonah and his men pursue a guy who gives them one of Ghidorah's heads at Isla De Mara. To which Jonah responds that he will steal it for an unknown reason.

Eco-terrorist Alan Jonah and his squad abduct Dr. Emma Russell and her daughter Madison to awaken King Ghidorah using a gadget Emma built called The Orca that transmits frequencies used to communicate with Titans, some years after Godzilla's appearance in San Francisco. Emma uses the Orca to tame a newly-hatched Mothra, and Jonah sees its capabilities.

To stop Jonah from getting what he wants, Emma's ex-husband, Mark, has joined Monarch's team of scientists and soldiers. But they are too late to stop Emma as she frees Ghidorah. During the first fight between them, Godzilla is killed by the beast. During a conversation with Mark, Emma tells him that she has been working with Jonah on a project that will bring balance back to the Earth. To get back at Ghidorah after getting rid of Rodan's volcano, he kills a whole squad of soldiers and then fights and loses to him. The three-headed dragon then shows that he is in charge, which causes the other Titans to rise and start causing trouble.

The credits say a Mothra egg has been unearthed, and Godzilla is preparing to fight Kong. Meanwhile, Ghidorah's head is delivered to Jonah for an experiment.
